MINUTES, Truman Chapter of AAUP September 23, 2005, 4:30 pm University Club Meetings are open to all university faculty members. Faculty present: David Robinson (presiding), James Harmon, Tom Marshall, Lynn Rose, Chett Breed 1. Minutes of the May 6, 2005, meeting were approved. 2. We reviewed last year's accomplishments: we want to include these in a newsletter to accompany Footnotes, which we will distribute soon to all faculty: A. We had many activities devoted to the appreciation of David Gruber. Missouri Council of AAUP established the David F. Gruber Leadership Development Fund. Even more impressive, he received the Tacey Award. This is a prestigious national award, recognizing outstanding service and accomplishment of someone in his/her State Conference and AAUP generally. David died August 3, 2005. B. Our chapter sponsored a Town Hall Meeting on October 12, 2004, on Contingent Faculty and Sabbaticals. C. President Dixon solicited and quoted AAUP's non-discrimination information and policy statements, but the Board of Governors decided not to change their statement to explicitly include sexual orientation. 3. AAUP voted last year to support the reconstitution of the Faculty Club in a new University Club Council. We will join with several campus groups (including some disciplines) to make sure that there is always an official board of officers. James Harmon will be our point man on the reconstitution process, though another member might ultimately be our representative to a new council. 4. Projects for the coming year: A. Collect pledged donations for State Conference's David F. Gruber Leadership Development Fund. B. Town Meeting in early November: topics may include university budget (invite University Budget Committee to make presentation); Sabbatical leaves and replacements; and FTE calculations and goals. We plan to dedicate this meeting to David Gruber. C. Pay Raises (President Dixon has raised this as a major issue). 5. Confirmation of officers for 2005-06: President- David Robinson (SS) VP - Judy Misale (SS) Treasurer - James Harmon (FA) Secretary - Marc Becker (SS) At Large - Diane Johnson (LL) and Roger Festa (SC) 6. New business, for action at October meeting: A. Our local AAUP might formally join/support a new community group, "Connect for Respect" (which first met as Citizens United Against Hate)? B. Treasurer's report on membership, dues, etc. C. Work on this year's projects (above), especially Town Hall Meeting 7. Adjournment, ca. 6:00 PM
