Minutes, Truman State University
Chapter of AAUP

March 16, 2001, 4:30 p.m.

Wooden Nickel

Meetings are open to all University faculty members.

Members present: David Gruber, Judi Misale, Gary Jones, James Harmon,
Martha Bartter, Kathryn Kuhlman, Marc Becker

1. James Harmon passed out a copy of the treasurer’s report and also
reported that he had not received a quarterly update from the national
office since fall of last year.

2. We discussed questions for the university survey that will go out
next week.  Judi Misale is chairing this committee. We are adding
four new questions–on faculty roles and responsibilities, research grant
procedures, summer salaries and university assessment (senior testing).
The survey will be due back by April 6; we hope to publish the results
by the end of April.

3. We discussed our spring membership drive.  David Gruber reported
a rise in membership (to 638) on the conference level.  Gary Jones
will contact the AAUP national office to attempt to procure some recruitment-drive
posters.

4. Gruber, Gary Jones, and Marc Becker reported on the regional leadership
workshop in Kansas City on Saturday, February 24 which they attended. The
workshop included presentations and discussions of membership drives, strategic
communications, and faculty governance issues.

Meeting adjourned at 5:30.

Respectfully submitted by Marc Becker, Secretary
