October 2015 minutes

Meeting of the Truman State University Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP)
2015 October 20,
4:30-5:45 PM, at the DuKum Inn
Present: Marc Becker, Sergio Escobar, Craig Hennigan, Marc Rice (presiding), David Robinson (secretary), Tom Zoumaras
Next meeting: Tuesday, November 17, 4:30 PM at the DuKum Inn

Chapter and national/state dues: A couple more people paid their chapter dues ($10 per semester). National dues (which include money for Missouri Conference) should be paid directly to national: http://www.aaup.org/membership/join

Motion was passed to reimburse Marc Rice for expenses to run the faculty salary survey on Survey Monkey (estimated about $26).

Salary survey and plans for follow-up: The survey will go out later tonight and run for about one week. More discussion on follow-up actions will be on the agenda for the next chapter meeting, Nov. 17; we preview with these possible ideas for follow-up once we digest the survey results.

1) Have a teach-in (maybe inviting student leaders) with charts, etc., to illustrate how faculty responded

2) Encourage other departments to endorse the CML letter (attached to last month’s minutes)

3) Quickly follow the publication of survey results with some kind of public action, to gain attention for this issue

4) Circulate Tom Zoumaras’s op-ed letter, if the Index decides not to print it (It did appear in next issue: http://index.truman.edu/pdf/2015-2016/october22/page4.pdf )

Marc Becker reported that the President’s Coffee earlier this afternoon was more tense that usual. He had always been so impressed with President Paino’s ability to make everything look good, going forward. Today, not so much …
